Location: Georgia (USA)

Outcome: Federal victory

As the left wing of General Sherman's March to the Sea continued through Georgia, Federal soldiers from Wisconsin and New York regiments under the command of Colonel William A. Points of Interest:

  • The Georgia state legislature fled Atlanta on this same day.

  • The next day, the right wing of Sherman's army reunited with the left still in Milledgeville.
