Following the death of Charles the Bold, last Duke of Burgundy, the French King Louis XI moved to invade the Burgundian Netherlands. Archduke Maximilian of Hapsburg, the son-in-law of Charles the Bold, fielded an army to intercept. Although the Imperial horse were defeated by French cavalry, the Flemish foot soldiers won the day.
Points of Interest:
Archduke Maximilian fought on foot alongside the his Flemish soldiers at Guinegate.
The French archers fled the field at Guinegate.
